Resource: AIKCU by the numbers (1-page PDF)

AIKCU is teaming up with member campuses to encourage Kentucky resident students who receive state financial aid – CAP, KTG, or KEES – to write to their state legislators to thank them for their continued support of these crucial financial aid programs. It is important for legislators to hear how important these programs are as they craft the Commonwealth’s next budget.

We’re asking every student who receives a CAP, KTG, or KEES award to write a quick thank you note to their state representative and state senator. AIKCU has provided stacks of thank you postcards to the financial aid offices at all 20 member colleges and universities. AIKCU can also provide posters to help campuses market the effort to students.

Last year, 14,708 students at AIKCU’s 20 member colleges and universities received more than $54 million dollars through Kentucky’s “big 3″ major financial aid programs: the need-based CAP and Kentucky Tuition Grant programs and the KEES scholarship. You can see the importance of these programs over time in this graphic.

Messages to legislators should be hand written, positive and to the point, thanking legislators for supporting financial aid programs the student receives and encouraging continued support of these programs. They should include the student’s name, college, and hometown and any relevant personal information (major, career choice, etc.) the student wishes to include.

Not on a campus but need some postcards? Shoot an email to that same address above with your address and the number of cards you need or call AIKCU at 502.695.5007.

We’re also looking for students to submit photo or video messages in support of student aid. Want to share your financial aid story? Upload a photo or video to the AIKCU Facebook page, tweet us, or email mason.dyer [at] aikcu.org.

We want these postcards to pile up on legislators desks, but if you’d simply rather email, you can find your legislators’ email addresses on the LRC website. Not sure who your legislator is? Check the LRC website or use a tool like Project Vote Smart.
